  • I'd have found this quicker if you had spelled Ge'ez correctly in the title.

  • My bad. Mistake corrected.

  • If anyone is interested, there is a Myspace forum for discussing the study of the ancient Ge'ez language and there is also a forum for Tigriña (both of which I moderate). If interested, get a free Myspace account and join either of these groups at:

    Groups*Myspace*com/GeezRevival

    and

    Groups*Myspace*com/Tigrinya

(change the asterisks to dots or else the URL's wont work)

  • I'm confused because I searched for the keywaord "Ge'ez" which is a language. Amharic speakers dont call their character-set "Ge'ez", they call it a "Fidel". In Tigray we call it the "Hu-Ha" (Tigriña's Hu-Ha has more characters than the Fidel but has less than the Ge'ez language character set).

Ge'ez is the oldest Afro-Semitic language, spoken Ge'ez evolving from Aramaic and the character set evolving from Sabean. From Ge'ez evolved Tigre, which begat Tigriña, which begat Gurage and Amharic.

  • Thanks. Now my only problem is that I don't get it because there is some Amharic text, but no instruction tutoring people how to read Ge'ez. Was this intended to teach English speakers how to read Ge'ez? I am confused.
