This thing is really sweet. Took a plunge and got one online. Most beautiful P bass I've ever seen, you really need to see it in person though. Neck feel is pretty much like the modern P bass. I own an actual 1979 fretless P and it's much chunkier, but non the less this thing has the very warm tone right out of the box, something that usually takes years to obtain on new instruments. It feels awesome, sounds awesome, and looks killer. Like it much more than the American made P basses.

Hi - that's mostly true. There were a few made with Block Inlays in binding in the '70s. You can find them in some of the Fender books and I ordered a couple for customers back in '75 ~ '76. But, you're right - they were never a catalog item. Fender calls this the "Fender P-Bass they should have made as a standard model". It's still a great bass - made in the same factory as your Geddy!!
