Victor is about 4 years old. After being picked up as a stray by a Worcester animal shelter he was adopted by American Poodles At Work. His owner, Sharon, has taught him some great tricks. • can cocker spaniels do thiss??

  • I think at some point I might have used a cookie right under his nose and moved it so that he had to step back to get the cookie. Victor tends to be a dog that may need a lot of initial help to understand what I am asking but then once he gets it he's really got it. He generalizes pretty well and applies things he already know to the new task presented to him.

I hope this made sense! Thanks again for your comment. I plan to put up some how to dog training movies soon Teaching light = first one

  • Sorry, ran out of space, computer froze, then had to leave... I had to be in a confined area because of his distractability and make sure not to much else was going on. I started him in front of me and signaled him to back then had him a little croocked in front of me and curved my hand a little to help him realize he needed to curve, he already knew to go between my legs. After that for Victor it wasn't too hard to transfer it to behind me. I used the same verbal cue so that he knew what to do

  • Thanks for the explanation!

Prestigious? Hardly. No one in my city even knows what I do. But I do appreciate the compliment. I feel good that I can help others, even if they are miles away!compliment.

  • Thanks so much! This means a lot coming from such a prestigious trainer! As for the scoot. I started with the back between a wall and a couch, making a small isle way. Then I practiced backing in heel position next to a wall. Then did the same thing except standing sideways and then a little out in front until I could stand in front of him and signal the backing up. Then I taught him to scoot from the front. I think I started with him between my legs walking back too and using a hand signal.

  • Thanks, poodles are amazing little Victor buddy is too!

  • I love poodles! They are beautiful & smart!

  • Great set of tricks! I'd love to see how you taught the scoot! (backing between your legs from behind.)
