  • This song makes me want to cut myself.

  • I really like Tori Amos's version of this song too

  • @LogiPowers Try (HOLD ON) Its one of his best calm simple songs!

  • Are there any more..calm songs like this by Tom Waits?

  • I discovered Tom Waits last year, and fell in love with his music. Nearly a year later, and I'm still finding gems like this that I'd never heard of before.

  • @slooshywarbles Tom's streets ahead of Cash and Dylan.

  • @slooshywarbles I don't think Tom wants to be that famous. I certainly can't speak for him, but.... anybody can be famous in this day and age. He could if he wanted to, I guess is what I'm saying.

  • If somebody asked me who Waits sounded like, I'd have to say Kurt Weill...I can't say that about any other songwriter from that generation. I think Waits would have been successful musically anytime in the 20th century. His music is that unique.

  • There are only three people that I can think of that have the poetic abilities that Tom Waits has. He is just as creative if not more creative than Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan yet hardly anyone knows about him (compared to the other two). People gotta discover this stuff

  • @guineapiggyman Yes and no. Yes for the fact that she made it her own, and the piano is nothing short of beautiful. If there is someone who is worthy of doing a cover of this song, it is her. At the same time, the simplicity in Waits's version adds a unique quality to the song, which may unfortunately be lost in Tori's version. Regardless, this song is outstanding, and both versions transcend anything you come across today.
