One of the first AMVs I ever watched, long before YouTube, and still my favorite.

It made me buy the series, but I found it does a better job telling the story of the first episode than the show itself does. It's simply a brilliant job of editing, the best of any AMV I've ever watched.

The image of Deep falling through Liberty is brilliant, and Readman touching Deep's hand at the end to make sure it won't dissolve is...deeply touching.

If you like this video, or RoD itself, search for "Read or Die - Elysium", with the haunting "Now We Are Free" theme from the movie Gladiator.

It comes and goes, and is fairly hard to find. (It wasn't up when I first commented here.) It's up as I type. (Dec '09)

As this AMV summarizes the first episode, 'Elysium" summarizes the friendship between Yomiko and Deep. Fair warning: it won't make much sense unless you've seen RoD, but if you have, it's lovely and moving.

On my -5 to 5 anime scale, this is about a 3 -- which is pretty good; well worth giving it a try. It's short, tells a more or less coherent story, has good animation (for anime), and the chemistry between Yomiko and Deep is fabulous.

It also has some serious flaws, particularly in plot logic, but I'll let you find them yourself.

Be careful not to get "Read or Die, The TV", which is a rather ill-advised sequel using different characters. Some people like it, though.
