quick question.....if it only takes someone to wind it up 24 times and it lasts for three hours... why dont they use this to power motors?

or am i missing something here?

The sculpture runs for 3 hours because it uses very little energy. The spring doesn't store a huge amount of energy.

Wonderful piece! Is the clicking sound the sound of an escapement mechanism? (I couldn't hear it on the video)

Yes, the clicking sound is the wood escapement pawls striking small brass pins. It is not very loud and hard to pick out on the video.
