fire! the video podcast are the twice weekly musings of Vince Clark, executive producer for fire! Films and Media. In each episode we will explore controversial and import current events.
In the first release we discuss the recent conviction of former Durham DA Mike Nifong for criminal contempt for withholding DNA evidence in the Duke Lacrosse case.
I don't disagree with you there. My concern is that the state of North Carolina took some unprecedented steps in this case. On the same day Nifong was being held in contempt a white man was being released after severing over a decade for raping a white child. It was acknowledged that the DA in that case used some questionable tactics and evidence to get a conviction. Not one call out of people on that guy getting 10 million for his trouble. He deserves it if anyone does.

I agree there are many cases where DA's buries the evidence, and they should be investigated. That takes
political initiative, it won't happen automatically. The reason this one got the special treatment was the media storm involved, white frat boys, the subsequent unraveling of the Dancer's testimony. Nifong set himself up so bad, this was his misdeed. We should consider anyone convicted of a crime innocent until proved otherwise.
