@Octane818 I was speaking of the way that the "left hand" was seen by other cultures in the east that consider their traditions "orthodox" or "right". I was not personally implying that "left hand" really has anything to do with cleanliness on a "real" level. Please reread my comment.

Also, to test the cultural theory, randomly show up at a Hindu temple, primarily Vaisnavite, and try to take an offering from the priest with your left hand to see the reaction.

@KageShadows it has nothing to do with clenliness, but from a belief that "energies naturally flow in a North/South current, and when one faces the sun, the energies flow through the body in a natural manner. To turn away from the sun places one's hands in opposite flows.

@helvis101 Not just in the western esoteric traditions... there are also eastern paths that can be termed as left hand, like vamachara. It mainly deals with unorthodox paths that depart from the rigidity and control of religion- but it scares many so they call it "left hand" because the left hand is seen as unclean in many cultures (used to wipe up after using the bathroom and other things).
