@BOOGE64 Dude, read the recent Washington Post article about the matter. And I have been to RFK for myself, the place is falling apart from the ground up
@ManicMonkeyJ Better yet, how did the Brits put up with standing accommodation, no roofs in some sections or splintery wooden seats in others for a hundred years before the Taylor Report was enacted. Watch the Valley Parade video about what happened when one careless fan threw down a march that started a fire, consuming the whole stand and killing 56.
DC United does not need a new stadium. They have RFK and its 60000 capacity all to their selves. Yes the stadium is 50 years old, but all it needs is a face lift to make it more soccer friendly. Washington DC is faring very badly in this recession and can't afford it.
Buy a new sweater for a Brit on Christmas, rest assured he will be wearing at the same Christmas party 10 years later. It's their culture to use something until it simply can't be used anymore. The idea behind launching MLS is to establishing its own identity, and soccer specific stadiums are apart of that drive. RFK looks to be a horrible outdated venue to watch an MLS game with many of the seats above and far away from the field.
Question. If RFK Stadium is too old to use then how the hell did the Brits used old Wembley Stadium as long as they did? Are you telling me that we aren't as hardcore as the Brits?
