"Hey, gents, what say we all head over to Reggie's digs? He's got one of those new Polyphons! Every gal in town's over there already!"

One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard - lovely piece of history and culture.

how much are these usually worth?

how much does it cost?

Yes this is definitely a Polyphon, made in Germany sometime between about 1895 and 1915 - possibly a commercial Style 104 I think, judging by disc size (19 5/8"?).
Regina were the USA branch of Polyphon - Regina started by basically assembling pre-made Polyphon music boxes, then quickly went into making their own proper models and styles. It would be very unlikely that Regina would have shipped any mechanisms to Europe for use in a Polyphon instrument, there was no need.

Thank you for the the history for the fascinating little company that made (arguably) the most beautiful music boxes.
Of course you may be correct but I know that Regina Polyphon shipped many mechanisms to Europe to be installed in Swiss or German cabinets. Perhaps there were mechanisms made in Europe as well. I don't know.

thanks for your input! I did some research: In 1889 G. Brachhausen and P.Riessner of Symphonion-Musikwerke founded their own company which later became Polyphon-Musikwerke AG in Leipzig. In 1892 Gustav Brachhausen went to Rahway New Jersey to build a new factory which later turned into Regina Music Box Company. Symphonion, Polyphon and Regina where the three big companies that manufactured music boxes. So I think my polyphon was indeed built in leipzig by Polyphon-Musikwerke AG

I hate to bust bubbles but this is a regina polyphon, isn't it. If it is, it was made in Rahway, New Jersey. Many of the mechanisms were shipped overseas and installed in German and Swiss cabinets.

no, I dont think it is a regina box. when I compare the mechanics to photos of various regina models found on collectors sites on the internet, it really does not resemble to regina models. and the mechanics behind the plate have the Polyphon label on it and not the regina label.

Oh, it sounds so beautiful, how old do you think it is?

I guess it was built circa 1900. The company Polyphon was founded 1889 in Leipzig.
