This sawmill in Cleveland (LeSueur County, MN) is just one of a few remaining stationary sawmills in the U.S.A. that saws lumber using steam power. The sawmill dates to 1870, and sawed lumber for homes, barns, furniture and many other items. Back in the day, the boiler and most of the machinery were brought up the Minnesota River by steamboat to the nearby town of Kasota, where it was loaded on wagons and brought to a site near where it sits today. This mill will be featured in Jeff Jarvis' upcoming book "Historic Mills of the Cannon River Valleys" because it is a typical steam sawmill that one would have seen in the late 1800s.

This mill was researched as it was typical of the mills found along the Cannon River in southern Minnesota. This research will be applied to Jeff Jarvis' book, "Historic Mills of the Cannon River Valley."
