Plagiarism is a growing problem in todays society. All plagiarism is wrong, whether it is blatantly stealing someone elses work or the theft of main thoughts and ideas. It is extremely easy for a student to go on the internet and abscond with another persons work. If it is so simple to copy and paste or write something directly out of a book into a work that one claims as their own, why should a student ever do his or her own work? Because it is wrong and blatant theft— the same caliber of illegality as stealing money. Many students admit to having plagiarized and see nothing wrong with it. This sad fact may be a sign of a greater problem. If the current generation is unable to see the impropriety of plagiarism, appropriate action must be taken. This plagiarism plague has brought about resources such as TurnItIn.com to reduce the rate of these plagiarism occurrences.
Plagiarism is a global issue because of the ease that the technological age has granted in finding information. Any person with access to the internet can type anything into a search engine and have an answer in seconds. There are more and more people plagiarizing every day, and it has become a socially acceptable thing. Literary works are not the only things that can be subjected to plagiarism. In todays world there are things such as music and art being taken and passed off as someones own creation. Artists, authors, and even movie directors have been the subjects of plagiarism and accused of plagiarism. The brand of the plagiarizer is severely decreased when situations of plagiarism is made public through the media. This is a key example of plagiarism as global problem, because it affects not only the individual or institution that committed the crime of plagiarism, but also every person in the world who values that individual or institution.
