I'm gona build one too. These little McDonalds merauders do in fact kill our indiginous birds. We had swallows build a mud nest on our barn. The sparrows through out the babies and took over the nest. I have been shooting them but this will be easier and cheaper. Thanx for posting it.

@chasfleming House Sparrows can in fact be aggressive towards other bird species especially during the nesting season. There is plenty of information and images on the internet of House Sparrows having destroyed nests and hatchlings of Eastern Bluebirds, Black-capped Chickadees, Tufted Titmouse, etc and have even ganged up and killed adult bluebirds if they trap them in the nest box. House Sparrows are the #1 problem of native birds in the U.S. and so there are no laws to protect them.

I would very much like to know why you assume that House Sparrows - (Passer domestics) supposedly kill Bluebirds and other native species in North America. Most ornithologists in the UK would take take issue with you over this and say that they are not capable. Further more, they are not an aggressive species. Do you actually destroy the sparrows when you catch them, do you not have laws in the US prohibiting cruelty to wildlife?

Cool! I will make one based on that model.
The elevator that drops down to the cut out hole is on one end of a seesaw. There are washers bolted on on the other end so that they are heavy enough to hold the empty elevator up, but a bird is heavy enough to drop it down. I used 4 quarters as my sample bird weight to make sure the elevator would drop.
