Today I received a question from a fellow youtuber asked if I could do tutorial on how to create a timelapse video. If anyone else has any questions or requests for video tutorials I encourage you post them on my channel wall and I'll try to get a video response up as soon as possible.

So the first thing you will want to do is import your video into imovie, click on file import from camera. Once your file is in your project library. Select the footage you want to time lapse and drag and drop it into the iMovie timeline. If you double click your video clip, an inspector window will come up. In order to speed up or slow down a clip in iMoive you will have to the click convert entire clip video button. You will notice on my screen that there is no convert video button because I have already converted this clip previously. After you have converted your video, you can increase the speed, if you move the speed slider all the way up you will notice that it only goes to 800%. I've found that if you click on the adjacent box, it will allow you to speed up videos to 2000% and make super slow motion videos at -2000%. Speeding up my video 2000% made my clip go from 12 minutes to 36 seconds long. If you want to speed your video up even faster or slow it down even slower, export your video to your desktop, open up a new iMovie project, then re-import your video from the desktop and repeat the earlier process. By doing this you can exponentially increase or decrease the speed of your videos without having to spend a ton of cash on expensive editing software.

This is another video tutorial by the how to mac. Thanks for watching.

  • I have a question about time lapse, like i know how to do it but how do you do time lapse but the camera moves also? is it just moving the camera very very slowly? moving the camera while taking individual photos? if you dont know what I am talking about, I can show you some examples...help please :)

  • @PanteneWreck Yes please show me an example! usually to reproduce something like what I think your talking about you will want good track dolly so you could slowly move the camera however thats time consuming and expensive. Using using iMovie you can simulate camera motion by using a ken burn Window<Kens Burns and Rotation. But what you really what if you want to simulate custom camera motion is Apple Motion and Final Cut Pro.

  • were do i download this software...please i need to do a project deadline is on wednesdayy please help

  • @ninja254100 search "download imovie" its the first result, imovie 8.0.6
