  • Where they sever it at? dont trains go through Petersburg everyday. 2 Carolinians 2 stars 2 meteors and 2 Palms

  • @howardkevinm that's the A-Line, which runs down from Petersburg through Rocky Mount and Fayetteville. The S-Line was severed between Petersburg and the VA/NC border; that line runs through Raleigh

  • @redsoxfan423 ok that sounds fimilar. i was looking on google earth and i can see where there may have been a line and then it just doesnt connect with the current line anymore. i wonder why they cut it?

  • @howardkevinm back before the railroad boom of the 90's/2000's CSX cut down on what it thought was redundancy by severing the S-Line and single-tracking the A-Line. It was a pretty stupid decision even back then since there has always been a decent amount of Amtrak traffic on CSX down the East Coast. If you read around you will see that Amtraks on the A-Line have had some of the worst reliability records.

  • idk understand why NS is at Raleigh. Raleigh is on the CSX mainline not NS.

  • @howardkevinm it's no longer a mainline lol. When they severed the S-Line between the VA border and Petersburg traffic vanished. Raleigh only sees 3 CSX trains a day. NS now has the most traffic running about 8-10 trains daily.

  • only if 5034 was pulling

  • Thanks, i wondered about that since the Amtraks just pass through the junction to and from the station. I knew how they were switched but I never how the NS trains were switched. I followed 349 one day to Raleigh and it disappeared after it got to Boylan junction. I had no idea where it went or reappeared.

  • thanks...350 comes in in the morning and takes the west leg of the wye @ Boylan. he brings the train in and parks the power. that night, power (not sure if it's the same from the morning) makes up 350, and it heads east (in your direction) using the east leg of the wye @ Boylan. The same happens with 349, but in reverse.

  • Great Video! One question, does 350 and 349 make reverse movements to reach the Raleigh yard at Boylan junction? Those trains pass through Clayton where I live.
