Not too long ago, Alaskan and Canadian homesteaders depended on their dogs to move felled trees, haul freight and pull water up from the river. Now these powerful freight dogs test their strength at spring weight pulling competitions across the north country. This pull was in Fairbanks, late March 2007.

  • @mossytangle, Where do they still host team pulls? I haven't seen any in years... but would love to attend one if there are clubs still hosting them.

  • @Aphexnexus I haven't seen any team pulls here, and it looks like (from the website) the local freight dog folks don't do them. I'd LOVE to see a team pull.

  • Do they do this as in who pulls most or do they have weight classes for the dogs?

  • @Brutalnemisis : They have weight classes for the dogs, and team-pulls for two dogs together.

  • Did I just hear 1,400 lbs.? WOW. The first Husky my family had was a large 80 lb. Quebec Husky, and now I have a 50 lb. girl (Alaskan Husky). I'd love to take her out to a pull like this, even though I know this is a freight dog's event really. Btw, with all of the racing dog events, it's also great to see the freighters get their due as well!

  • @mossystangle Gotcha. I think it would be fun to pair up some of my boys for a team pull... I just have yet to see anyone host them. Would definitely need a lot of weight on hand, though...

  • Awesome Dogs!

Straight outta "Call of the Wild", John Thornton and Buck. I love it how the pooches knows exactly what the boss wants.

  • Wow that first dog has wolf in it blood.

  • If you can't find out just try starting off low and work your way up but don't strain your dog too much =)
