The Big Joke of 2011.

King's Speech was the most brilliantly clever, witty, intelligent, heartfelt, emotional, true film I have ever seen. And it was all down to the script. A very well deserved award.

I'm really sorry for Chris Nolan 'cause he totally deserved it. King's Speech was really good but I mean, Nolan wrote on Inception for 10 years and the storyline is so original and thrilling and ingenious.. please Academy will you recognise this man for the Dark Knight?! If you don't, you have lost your mind and don't know, what good filmmaking is!

@rh1252 I agree to a degree.
It earned its Oscar nomination as is, but I think the exposition held it back from winning.
Also, I agree with the snubs. THAT doesn't make sense.

@jwelch5742 They completely different films. To even compare them is ridiculous.
-
box office for dark knight: $1 billion
box office for inception: $900 million
the look on Nolan's face when he loses....priceless
-
and how did inception not win?
-
nolan really deserved this
-
well nolan they always say the third time is the lucky one

@AGentertainment While that's true, exposition in Inception's case is not a bad thing, in fact it's what makes the movie work. Nolan needed to explain the rules of a fairly complex world of dream technology while developing the history of Cobb and Mal's relationship. The fact that it works so well in such a tight package in 2.5 hours is what makes the screenplay so impressive. But this snub is nothing compared to EDITING where it wasn't even nominated, and Directing as well.
I still tear up at the last part. Sure, The King's Speech wasn't the flashiest or most exciting of movies, but it was a heartbreakingly true one that depicts the realities of millions of stutterers in the world, including myself. We struggle silently and courageously, carrying on through the days as best we can, facing rejection, humiliation, snide remarks, uncomfortable stares... and pity, the worst of all. Thank you David Seidler for acknowledging our lives when we have felt so invisible.

To all of the people that think Inception should have won this award don't know much about writing. I would like you to rewatch Inception have learning what the word "exposition" means. Most of the dialogue in Inception is exposition.
I loved Inception too, but don't let your love for the movie blind you from obvious things.
