Since 1982, Wake County Magnet Schools (North Carolina) have fostered great achievements, crafted hot beds of creativity and diversity, and produced a rich array of educational choices for all students. Despite national praise, press for its successes, and emulation in other states, the current Wake County School Board intends to dismantle the magnet program in favor of neighborhood schools.
