Hula in San Francisco? Absolutely! The San Franciscan connection with Hawaiian people has been historically strong since pre-American times. Hawaiians came with early European and American sailing ships to the Spanish settlement of San Francisco. Hawaiian people from those voyages worked at places like Sutters Fort and later in the California Gold Rush. The ties to Hawaii have continued throughout our history and are alive today. "Hula is the Heartbeat of the Hawaiian people" said Hawaiian Monarch David Kalakaua who passed away here in San Francisco.
On August 15, 2009, Patrick Makuakane and his San Francisco based Hula Halau, Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu, staged a 'Hit and Run Hula' event throughout San Francioco. Unannounced Hula performances were showcased in surprise venues for the entertainment of all. These short videos are a series from that event.

Well, just as the song says - "E ku`u baby, hot cha cha."
Although I notice that it was a very abbreviated edit of the song, to fit in the short time the lights were red!
