Teens from the Forbes School of Irish Step Dancing of Quincy performed at Monday's pre-playoff pep rally in City Hall Plaza.
"Performing is such a thrill anyway, but to do it for the Red Sox is unbelievable," said Nicole Forbes, 15, a student at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree. The rally from 4 to 7 p.m. included performances by the Dropkick Murphys, the Standells and a tribute to the 1967 Impossible Dream team.
"It's going to be quite a show," said dancer Therese Sullivan before the show. Sullivan, 17, attends Fontbonne Academy in Milton. "We've performed at some of (the Dropkick Murphys') shows but never in conjunction with the Red Sox." The dancers will perform to "Flannigan's Ball," a new Dropkick Murphys' song written about Quincy, where the band was formed in 1996. "It's neat to perform a song with them about our town," Sullivan said. The dance team got to know the Dropkick Murphys after a friend of band member Ken Casey sent his daughter to the school, said Joan Forbes Dunn, one of the team's four coaches. Dancing on a big stage is nothing new for the girls: They have competed at world championships in Belfast, Ireland and performed with the homegrown band at a St. Patrick's Day concert in at Agganis Arena. "That's the beauty of having performed in large venues before," Dunn said. "Nerves won't be a factor." Siobhan Deasy, 13, of Quincy, a diehard Red Sox fan, is looking forward to performing and possibly meeting some of her favorite players.
"I'd be great to meet (David) Ortiz because he's such a great hitter," she said.
