every place has those types of people idiot, you are just a bitter old man, I never experienced any of that in dealing with them, and my wife who I married over there in October never once asked for money in 6 months of talking prior. She is here now on spousal visa in Canada - and we have been back there twice already. You must have Cebu confused with Africa.

@MegaSigbin there are expensive hotels yes but they all fall short of what you pay...all phils hotels are like that not just cebu...its something they cannot get right and they are making the mistakes in hospitality now as they did 25yrs ago when i first went there...okay i am not just saying it .....its true..thats why the phils is not really a tourist centre as it should be. its still off the beaten track

@WELLBRAN : Mercedes Hotel? Seriously? Well, I was from Cebu and I swear I didn't even include that htoel in my list to stay when I am having a vacation in Cebu. Why would you stay there? Financial reasons?lol.. For that cheap of a price, you were expecting a 5-star service. Now, next time if you want to go on other places as a tourist be sure you can spend ok? Or better yet, just stay home.

@BisoyChef55 There were no Mexico at that times, they were called New Spain--run by Spanish that was born in New Spain now we called Mexico after they gain there Independence from Spain. The Philippines was ran by Spanish from New Spain now called Mexico. After New Spain gained there Independence from Spain , Spain took over . So you can say for most of the year Mexicans runs the Philippines and thus explained why Mexico and Philippines share similar traditions .

lets forget the Mexico theory of colonization, MEXICO WASN'T EVEN AN ESTABLISHED COUNTRY YET WHEN MAGELLAN colonized the Phil., they were indian tribes called AZTECS & INCAS that migrated throughout what we now call Latin America, only Spanish speaking people influenced the language & culture from that time until they were defeated by the British, then given back to the Spanish, then Americans, Japanese, then back to the Americans who granted them independence in 1946.. sorry no Mexico influence
Plz, there is Spanish style architecture in Cebu. But not Mexican. The older sections of town churches etc were influenced in Spanish architecture. Not so much today, or less so past the WW2 era. The people and there sir names are very much so influenced by the Spanish even more so in their religion. Magellan (a Spaniard) brought and forced his changes on the area as most conquers did of his time. Today, not a lot is left but you can still find treasures of that time still remaining.
