Anny Ondra is terrific - as is this film. I rank it as one of Hitchcock's best, no question.

anyone else notice how modern she looks? she looks like if she got in a time machine and came to 2011 she would blend right in.

You can't hear the noisy birds in the silent version... Hitchcock made use of birds as the bringer of ill luck in movies so in many ways I prefer the talkie version of the film...

This clip makes me want to take every talkie ever made...and remake it as a silent film.

The silent version is better: Anny Ondra's pretty face seems to be more beautiful. We can "taste" her perfomance better.

In the silent version of this scene, we can appreciate Anny Ondra's performance more. I like how she looks at herself in the mirror and touches her face. She may be wondering why becoming a murderess hasn't changed her appearance much.
