The hat is, as catbearlol pointed out, inspired from the Italian Bersaglieri. I don't remember her name, but a Norwegian queen saw the Bersaglieri in the late 1800's and fell in love with their headwear. When she returned to norway, she requested the king to arrange for his quards to wear the same hat. And this was arranged, as is still worn by the unit today. I'm being called in this October : D

Holy Shit that was awesome! I went to norvegia last summer and I saw some of those guards near the kings' palace, and it was pretty cool!

@jdewitt77 the hat origins fra the italian Bersaglieri. i cant remember the exact history but i am sure. btw is buffalo hair :)

Notice how their hats are similar to the Italian Bersaglieri except the Norwegians have horse hair plumes while the Italians have cock feathers on theirs.
