Millions of children in low-income neighborhoods are at risk of school failure before they even start kindergarten. Jumpstart's Read for the Record®, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, allows Americans to demand that all children receive the quality early education they deserve.
On October 6, 2011, more than 2 million voices will call for an end to America's early education achievement gap by reading Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney -- setting a world record in the process! Pledge to read at www.readfortherecord.org.
Sit Down to Read
On October 6, Jumpstart's Read for the Record kicks off on NBC's TODAY show. On that day, thousands of reading events will be hosted by governors, mayors, schools, businesses, libraries, individuals and other organizations—all to raise awareness of the early education achievement gap. All the tools needed to plan a reading event -- big or small -- can be found at www.readfortherecord.org.
Want to read Llama Llama Red Pajama online? Through We Give Books and Pearson Foundation, you can read Llama Llama Red Pajama for free on at www.wegivebooks.org/readfortherecord. Every online reader will help Pearson Foundation donate books to children in need!
Stand Up for Children
By joining the campaign, you'll help us call for an end to America's early education achievement gap! In low-income neighborhoods, children start kindergarten behind their wealthier peers -- and research shows that most will never catch up. This achievement gap means that millions of children are not fulfilling their potential.
High quality early education is the best way to set our children -- and our nation -- on a path for long-term success. By joining the campaign, you'll be supporting Jumpstart, a national early education organization that helps preschool children in low-income neighborhoods develop the language and literacy skills they need for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap.
