treviso 1:2 (NORTHERN SOULS part1)

Treviso è la prima provincia veneta per residenti stranieri, la prima per studenti stranieri iscritti alle scuole. Eppure vivere a Treviso non è facile se sei un immigrato: la popolazione straniera è aumentata velocemente nel giro di pochi decenni, e la politica ha fatto un uso strumentale della paura nei confronti del diverso per cercare consenso. Mentre le organizzazioni della società civile cercano di farsi carico dei servizi che lamministrazione pubblica non vuole fornire, la vita sociale degli immigrati appare alquanto limitata e forzatamente sommessa.

Treviso is the province with more foreign residents in the Veneto region, and with more foreign students enrolled in public schools. Yet, living in Treviso is not easy if you are an immigrant: the foreign population has risen quickly in just a few decades, and the dominant political discourse has done an instrumental use of the fear of the "other" in order to obtain consensus. While the civil society organizations are trying to offer those services that the public administration is not willing to provide, the social life of immigrants is strongly limited, since keeping a low-profile seems to be the only option for being tolerated in this context.
