dude. 120 Gb is not 14 hours of full HD
it's maximum 1h30 at best.
but you are probably talking about the compressed HD that Sony offers.

Here's what it says in our "Hands on Research" for this product on the Crutchfield Website. This info comes from the owner's manual:
HD Recording Mode:
AVCHD 16M (FH): movies are recorded with AVCHD 1920 x 1080/60i format with highest quality and gives you approximately 14 hours and 40 minutes of recording time
Hope that helps,

Hi crutchfieldtv !! I want to know if this camcorder is better that the model hdr-xr550ve? or not
PAULINHO785 1 year ago
@PAULINHO785
Well, the hdr-xr550v is a model we carry, and it's two years newer than the SR12 with some improvements, It has GPS as well as an improved image sensor, among other things.
I am not sure of the difference between the hdr-xr550v and the hdr-xr550ve, (Europe maybe?)
Hope that helps,

when editing, or viewing the footage in vegas 9 does it play smoothly for editing or does it freeze up the computer a bit? i ask because my H.264 flash camcorder sucks for editing...especially in full hd 1080 mode! any help with this...is hard drive camcorders better for editing? thanks

@raeart
Finding editing software that can deal with AVCHD files (High Definition) is the key. HD video off a hard drive camera has always been hard for computers to deal with, but they are finally catching up. Do your homework though, and make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for whatever video editing program you use.
I hope that helps,
