No, that will ruin it, use the lasso tool to pull the body parts off then make them seperate movie clips and put them near each other again and bone it.

you cannot use the bone tool on any symbols unless you are connecting one symbol to another symbol. in other words, a bone cannot end on the same symbol it started on. thats why the bone wont appear. try not to use symbols but if you have to (because of the error) make a seperate symbol for each part of the character e.g. foot, arm, head, hand, main body ect.
