Here's my review of the Madcatz Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom Arcade Fightstick for the Nintendo Wii.

I was very surprised with the quality and build of this joystick. Many people first complained that they wouldn't buy it because Madcatz couldn't get Sanwa to make the parts for the stick, but a member over at SRK by the name of RoboKrikit opened the stick up and compared all of the parts to Sanwa. The results were so damn near close its hard to tell the difference. You can feel a bit more stiffness in the stick and buttons but not as near as a Simitsu stick.

The stick also works really well with most of your Virtual Console games. I used it in games like Star Soldier R, Gradius Rebirth and even Gunstar Heroes with great results. With TvC it works great, even though some people don't like it that the controller is wireless I've had no problems with my stick so far. If you do have a problem with the stick being wireless you can use a PS2 to Game Cube converter and those work fine.

Overall a great joystick from the folks over at Madcatz. So if your looking to play TvC the way it was meant to be played or want to enjoy your Virtual Console or Wiiware games in a new way, be sure to give this stick a shot.

We will be doing more joystick and arcade hardware reviews for you soon in the future! So stay tuned and subscribe and be sure to check out our website for all the newest stuff!

  • Do the buttons face in or pop out? And how does it feel? Can you get the controller without the game without going online? I am so glad to find out I can play brawl and VC games with this. And maybe some mario kart too.

  • @Zawicki1 It's basically the SFIV Fightstick with better parts. They fell very close to Sanwa parts, but you can switch them out if you feel the need. Check the link in the video to SRK where it has the full info on the stick.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second part of your question. You can find places that sell the game and controller as a combo, but when it came out it was sold separately. I got the stick at Best Buy and you can also pick it up at Gamestop, no need to go online for it

  • @PressStartComic I originally wanted to know if they sold it seperatly because in stores I've never seen it alone. I've only seen them in a bundle or the game alone, but not the controller. Then I went to the best buy site and saw they sell it alone. I'm probably gonna get it for my birthday. I don't feel like buying it right now. How do you switch the parts of the controller? Well, thanks anyway. I'm looking forward to getting it.

  • @Zawicki1 There's a bunch of good FAQ's online to tell you how to swap the parts out of a madkatz stick. Just get the parts you need (I went to Lizardlick) and grab a screwdriver and they just pop in and out.

  • Can you play other Wii fighting games with this? Like Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, and the KoF: Orochi Saga? I know you said Virtual Console games (sounds like Super Street Fighter II on Virtual Console works with it).

  • @nintendoboy17 Yes, it works with VC games and almost every game for the Wii. You can use the selector nob on the left hand side if you want it to work with the D-Pad or Right Analog Stick. Pretty much, if the game supports a Classic Controller, you can play them with the Fightstick.

  • @PressStartComic You mean left?

  • anyone know if theres an easy way of replacing the Wii- wire with a usb-micro usb wire? i basically have no use for this now, i don't have tvc, i barely have any games for the wii except for old downloaded ones (i use the rare SNES controller for them) and the only other options i would have is try to learn how to take it apart so i could use one of the three way switches, or sell it on ebay (not a good idea due to price and low want value)

  • .....looks shiny

  • is there a 4 directional for retro games?

  • haha its a madcatz se stick they are all the same except the art. The SSF iv the wwe and this one all the same stick except the price lol.

  • Here to find out about modding this stick with proper sanwa parts of seimistu seems that I should actually use the buttons and get a feel for them first, being they are so similar (so you say).

I hope this will work with the Wii HD tba middle of the year. I picked up a super cheap one for £17 or so (controller :P).

  • hey should i get this. is it good. the closest thing to me playing with a arcade stick was me playing mvc2 arcade cabinet when i was 5 or 6 years old.

  • "Couldn't get sanwa to do the buttons" Wtf is that supposed to mean look at the TE they just bought parts from sanwa lol.

  • @PressStartComic Correction it uses the same parts.

  • I just picked this stick up with a mayflash wii to usb adapter for windows 7. I hope I can pull double duty with it. So far I'm pleased with it. I'm not a huge fan of Japanese style square gate sticks, but I could not argue with the clearance price. Also I was surprised at how heavy duty the cabinet felt, its high impact. Someone at MadCatz finally figured out that quality matters.
