Not scary in color--the lighting on the face is messed up. Much better in B&W. Of course, the real thrill is in the buildup and the suspense. You have to see the whole sequence.
Of course, the 1925 original does use two strip technicolor for the Bal Masque scene.

True, this is the version of the unmasking from the 1929 release, but it was made in 1925. The only available copies of the original '25 version are in pretty rough shape so not as easy to work with for coloring.
