OMG!!.. I really like when you said "wushu emphasizes the ART part of war arts, while practicals emphasize the War part of war art"
hahaha.. really....
well.. Even though, I am fan of 'ART' part since I love mediation and beauty of those movements and never practice for fight ( especially street fight. i never expect one ) But what you said it is true and capture the core concept .. : "D
yes, but that is the point, a real weight weapon should be used to strengthen the wrists and allow someone to actually wield a real weapon, no?
I also do not understand the floppy wushu weapons, you need to get grace and flow with real weight weapons, that is the whole point. a dao would only weigh about 1 pound or more, it really would not take that much longer to learn with a proper weapon, IMHO
It did help, thanks :). So those weapons will, in a sense, allow them to learn the form faster because they wont need the strength to control a combat weapon.
Wuhsu steel weapons are made light for ease of practice and weapon control. While I'm more of a practical MA fan, and thus, enjoy more traditional heavier built weaponry, I understand why it is so, wushu emphasizes the ART part of war arts, while practicals emphasize the War part of war art. This way they can achieve balance, grace, and flow without requiring the insane conditioning and soldiering of a heavier weapon. Hope that helps, and thank you for posting this.
Hmm, it's weird when you compare the jian and dao forms and realise that the jian form looks more powerful than the dao.

Also lighter weapons are a heck of lot easier on the wrists.

This is a really nice video! It would be better if he wasnt using that flimsy sword. I dont know what people see in those "wushu steel" weapons.
