A great live version of this song by Melanie is on the Rhino "Best of" Collection. It is also on the Melanie live album "Leftover Wine"... But I really like Rhino's remaster of it.

I am sorry to say. She´s a good singer, but this comes nowhere near Melanie´s original.

Some one quite awhile ago had the live version of Melanie singing it when it came out on one of her early albums. When I went back to download it all that came up was that it was that it had been removed at the request of the author. Its a very moving to the point of heart renching but also depressing. Enough so that someone that might be suicidal could put them over the edge. I'm not certian that's why she pulled it but I'm sure she had her reasons. Alison does capture it well.

Missing? Erm Hello!!! This is a thousand times better than the original version - Alisons vocals are second to none, by a clear mile she is probably the greatest female vocalist ever to have come out of the UK.

Beautiful song, good interpretation, but I think what is missing is the desperate passion of young melanie ( 1968)

Wow wow wow. This is one song that I would have bet money that NO ONE would ever have done a cover of. Truly, truly amazing song...

Nice seeing someone cover the Song Goddess' earlier songs . Great job Alison

I was rather hoping for a duet, but this is lovely too! She does remind me of Melanie in how she exaggerates what she wants to.
This version is really quite lovely.
