Here's another of my favorite early comedy records by the old Vermonter, Charles Ross Taggart. This is a very humorous story about Taggart's character, Uncle Zed, deciding to go to town to buy a brand new Columbia Graphophone or as he calls it, a "Hail Columbia Happy Land Talkin' Machine". I've always preferred this record from a purely entertainment point of view over Cal Stewart's version of "Uncle Josh Buys A Victrola" on the Victor Talking Machine label. Thanks for stopping in and hope you enjoy this.

  • This is one of my favorite pieces by Charles Ross Taggart.

Incidentally, I've just started presenting a living history portrayal of Mr. Taggart here in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Mr. Taggart did grow up in Topsham, Vermont, but he was actually born in Washington, D.C.

Besides his recordings of his old country fiddler and Pineville Folks monologues, he was in an early talking movie picture, a Phono-Film, in 1923, about 7 minutes long.

I'm trying to get him better known.

  • @AdamRBoyce Thanks for the comments and information on Mr. Taggart. Since I enjoy his recordings I have accumulated a fairly large collection of his original monologues recorded on Edison cylinder, Edison disc and, of course, Columbia and Victor 78rpm disc as in the video here.

  • That was a new old=time story teller to me. I have a few Uncle Josh records but none of this guy! Your Victor is a beauty. Thanks for posting this.

  • Thanks 2reeler! Your comments are sincerely appreciated. I always enjoyed the early comedy records and Taggart had a style all his own that was unique. I have many of Taggart's records on cylinder and disc and they're always a fun listen. Thanks also for your gracious comments on my Victor D.
