These early electronic sounds suited Dr Who far more than the current Orchestrated Murray Gold compositions.
-
this is fantastic
-
@The2010SnowDay It was a plucked bass string for the bassline and they combined it with a deep bass valve oscillator swoop;they did several of these swoops and edited those swoops so that the swoop marries up to the bass string rising swoop dum dum dum rising swoop dum dum dum etc.

@NotQuiteJay Another interesting thing about the original theme is that for the bass line, they had a single plucked string that they would then slow down/speed up to create the pitch, but I forgot what the other bass sound was.

Thank you, I see your quite informed!

Originally the theme was created before synthesizers existed. I believe the melody was created by pitch shifting a tone created by a tone generator or wave oscillator of some sort the note by note taped together.

Hello, thanks for posting. Did you happen to find out the name of the instrument that is carrying the melody, is it a synthesizer of some sort?
Thanks

These are great! Did you happen to get any footage of Ziwzih Ziwzih 00-00-00?

Unfortunately not, I wish I did though. I'd have recorded more Dr Who but the battery ran out on my phone making this clip.
