It started as a discussion in the office that turned into an argument down the pub and has now become a full blown mission to find the Top 20 Greatest Synths of all time.
But here's the thing. We need your help.
Submit your top 3 favourites below and our panel of judges including Roger O from THE CURE, Ade Utley from PORTISHEAD and Will Gregory from GOLDFRAPP will be making a shortlist from your suggestions.

Then (and here's the good bit) we're gonna produce a Top 20 Greatest Synths IPTV show exclusively for Sonic State members! There'll be Music, photos, footage, specs and interviews with the people who made 'em and the people who played 'em. Everything you need to know about the finest electronic instruments ever produced will be right here at Sonic State and all you have to do to take part is send us your list.

OK we know, it's a tough call. But here's some pointers to help you choose.

1)The chart is about hardware, so no softies (we'll be doing a software chart next year)
2)'Greatest' means the most inspirational, the most influential, the most iconic and the sexiest - er - basically the one with the most knobs on wins.
3)It's 'synths' not 'keyboards' so don't include the Rhodes.
