It takes more open mindedness to be a Christian - an open mind to the possibility of all sorts of things that normal folk are closed off to considering due to pride.

I'm just greatful it is the Lord that does the saving and not of ourselves or none of us would ever have hope.

Goose, you are confusing atheists with humanists. Atheists simply do not believe that an imaginary deity is real. Humanists who want to improve the human condition and human rights also do not believe in a god. I know plenty of Christians who don't help anyone but themselves so put your challenge to them. One can say that what a Christian is laid out in 1 John, therefore anyone who claims to be a Christian and doesn't want to help is falling foul of the Bible's own definition.
