First you need two great big avon jet engines, then just add a touch of afterburner.

  • @VegaVids Airbus Skylink Super Guppy.

  • @Wonkabar007 Is this the cold war jets day

  • @IrritatedBear Yes.

  • I saw two of these competing at fast take-off in Malta in 1968 at Luqa against two RAF Phantoms and two USAF phantoms, the USAF Phantoms were first off the ground followed by the RAF then the Lightning went straight up between them the comment from the USAF pilot was what the F**** was that I want one.

  • @T5058932 That would have made an epic YouTube video. Makes me wonder how many great video clips from years gone by, are sitting in boxes gathering dust in cellars and lofts never to be seen on the internet.

  • @Wonkabar007 I think the lightning still holds the record for the fastest climb to 50,000ft

  • was that a black jack I saw before this one took off?

  • It's a shame, literarally that they can't even fly this thing anymore. What the hell is wrong with the world today?

  • @skibdattles Directly from the front there are some similarities admittedly as long as you remember to put the MIG 21 into a photocopier and set enlarge to 120% first. Wing planform is entirely different, the MIG 21 having a delta wing whereas the Lightning had a steeply swept back wing. As for performance and combat capabilities, the Lightning would eat the MIG for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. The Lightning could go from brake release to 36,000 feet in less than 3 mins btw :)

  • @sgtgrash you're absolutely correct, I forgot about the MiG-21's identical twin.

  • @skibdattles What are you on about? This isn't soviet it is British (English Electric Lightning - The clue is in the name) and believe me the Lightnings were not junk, they could outperform anything in the skies when in active service and with updated avionics, even today they'd give a good account of themselves. The only downside was that they did like their drink.. ;)

  • It's hardly 'all the cars'.
