@toddsmitts Unfortunately I never watched Enterprise. For some reason, I just didn't like the idea of them doing episodes from the past of the episodes we were used to. But then again it took me a while before I gave DS9 and Voyager a chance too and now I love both of those series.

@Dippers85 Of course novels, as good as some of them are, are not canon. Personally, I always assumed the Borg were some Delta Quadrant species that were overrun by their own technology (a la Skynet)

@toddsmitts If anyone actually reads the Star Trek Destiny books.....there is one of them that actually explains the entire existance of the Borg once and for all, how they came about etc, Book 3, Lost Souls......I won't mention how it ends :)
But what David Mack came up with was a very interesting premise for the Borg :D

@marilyn007manson1 Apparently a similar story was pitched for what would have been Enterprise's 5th season: It would've involved casting Alice Krige as some Starfleet scientist or something who unwittingly becomes the first Queen. I gotta say, much as like most of the later ENT stories, I really hated that idea.
It's ridiculously implausible and Earth-centric that a human would have somehow created this super-powerful cybernetic species localized on the other side of the galaxy.

@toddsmitts But it would take some creative thinking for the writers to somehow put Dr Soong in the past and in the Delta Quadrant.

@toddsmitts I guess you have a good point on the time travel idea. As for the movie, I think it would have been better if they some how brought Lore back and had him in control of the Borg rather than create the Borg Queen. I also thought it would be a cool idea if the writers made a movie where the crew traveled back in time and it turns out that Dr Soong created the borg somehow in the past and they turned against him and became what they are now.
