The ferry whistles/horns used to sound much more frequently. Years ago, the Ferries were required to blow the whistle whenever leaving Horseshoe Bay, and whenever approaching other marine traffic, especially after several people perished in a pleasure craft off Cowan's point. It is very strange that this practice has been all but curtailed.
