That was in the summer of 2004 when Mr Gavrilov played a big tour with several Rachmaninov concertos around Europe. In Italy he played number 3 D minor.
After the concert in San Remo he came to Vicenza and found out that the conductor could not perform due to illness.

The organisers begged Andrei to play a recital,he replayed it is totally impossible because he was in a month long tour with different orchestras and only Rachmaninov concertos but after he saw how sad was the people he decided to play. He prepared the program 40 minutes before the concert and it was very hard indeed..

Thanks to Puchjok for the concession.

  • He's still got the technique. And the ridiculous temperament.

  • Amazing technique, without pedal!!!

  • Horrible musically speaking. He plays it like a Hanon exercise. Monster technique but no musical feeling at all. Chopin would have been sad.

  • I heard this man perfom Tchajkovsky's 1st piano concerto 2 days ago. He is an astounding musician and showman.

  • Has anyone noticed that he's playing in a fucking church or something? The recorded was really near the piano (the original audio of the camera can be heard in the first seconds)

This is why he didn't use the pedal

  • This is by far tho worst interpretation I've ever heard.... Pain to my ears...

  • With it being slightly out of synch, he got up before he finished playing.

  • @yukimuraoka Like you?

  • Sviatoslav Richter Etiude Op.10 No 4

  • I didn't read the text before commenting. If he truly performed a recital to please the public, well, then this is a truly great artist!

  • Okay, to all of those who claim he doesn't use the pedal = untrue. BUT, he uses the pedal only a fraction in this piece, only where he has to use it to maintain some legato. This performance is just sickening to the point in thinking it's just impossible to play it this way. But he does it anyhow! Kudos to Mr. Gavrilov!

  • Anyone, before criticize one of the most amazing living pianist, should be able to play like him (or better) !!!!!! I LIKE IT !
