Dial 911 for Emergency - Alert a Lifeguard to suspicious activity in the water - Never take things into your own hands. That being said in July 2008 while surfing Brendan Smith of Solana Beach spotted something as we were leaving the beach out of the corner of his eye - if he didn't this could have been another tragic day for Solana Beach seeing one fatal shark attack already this year. This Video is featured in a local San Diego news cbs8.com on July 29th,2008. See story: http://cbs8.com/features/your_stories/story.php?id=135998

  • what the fuck just happened here??

  • Basically an elderly woman tried to snorkel and was weighted down with all her gear and started to struggle. This video shows B.Smith rescue here on his long board.

  • This is how it should be...true watermen with their eyes open, good job

  • Thanks for that - actually many other surfers and beach goers ignored the struggling woman and when we pulled her out it was clear we did the right thing - she would have died.

But Brendan did catch her out of the corner of his eyes and was brave enough to take action.

The lifeguards were alerted and came in with paramedics and all turned out for the best.

  • what happend? just a fool paddling out and then back in and another fool hobbling up some stairs

  • There was a woman struggling out there to far to swim back as it turns out she was snorkeling and was around 70+ years old. She had been out there for hours and that's when we took action and pulled her in. The life guards came in with paramedics and brought her to the hospital.

  • Damn! This person put a lot of effort into this. Reward them by watching this!

  • Luke my brother thanks for posting the video. I'm just glad we were there to help the lady out. If you were not on the beach making sure i was OK swimming out there this could have been bad.

  • Great job!

  • A true hero .

  • Best vid I've watched on youtube in a long while. A true hero and gentleman. Wish there were more like you. Well done and tons of respect to you for such a selfless act.

  • @MYSOCALLEDLIFE

It is scary when something happens people just stand there, watch and do nothing. All you have to do is tell the lifegaurd. You are not doing CPR. BTW was this real or a set up. Good job for doing the right thing if it was fake or real.

  • Most heroes simply do what they think any one else would do, the right thing.

It is sad so many ignored her for so long. But people like you give me hope for humanity. I tip my hat to you in respect. -signed another lifeguard

  • Why do you say "never take things into your own hands"? If you see someone in danger and you can help, and there's no other help around, I think you absolutely *should* take things in your own hands. I'm glad not everyone shares your philosophy on that one.
