  • When they were both 3yr.old's, there's no doubt Sariska was the better filly between herself and Midday. Even though Sariska won the Middleton in their 2010 debut, I'm not sure she was the better 4yr.old of the two. But we'll never know with her having dwelt in this race and the Prix Vermeille. But before all is said and done in their careers, Snow Fairy's achievements may end up eclipsing both Sariska's and Midday's achievements, IMO.

  • When you look back and see what Snow Fairy went to Japan and Hong Kong and accomplished after this race. What does that say about how great a filly that Midday really is to have beaten Snow Fairy drawing away from her with relative ease in this race. Just wish Sariska had participated in this race and the Prix Vermeille.

  • I can't really say that I agreed with Godolphin putting their first set of colors on Hibaayeb and their second set of colors on Flying Cloud in this race. Both fillies were winners of the Ribblesdale Stakes at Ascot. Hibaayeb in 2010. Flying Cloud in 2009. But beyond that comparison. Flying Cloud, IMO, is much more talented filly than Hibaayeb. And she's had a much more successful career than has Hibaayeb. IMO.

  • The 2010 Yorkshire Oaks had the potential of being one of the greatest filly and mare turf races seen anywhere for a long time. This field was probably even better, top to bottom, than the 2010 B.C. F&M Turf field was. The 2009 and 2010 dual Oaks winners in the race. The 09' B.C. F&M Turf, and 2-time Nassau Stakes winner in the race. A Ribblesdale Stakes winner, in the race. A back to back Lancashire Oaks winner, in the race. What a race this could've been, had Sariska participated. JMO.

  • Midday had a fantastic 2010 season. Even in defeat in the 2010 Breeders Cup F&M Turf. But I really have to say, Snow Fairy's recent victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Japan is probably the most dominant performance I've seen by any filly or mare all season. When Ryan Moore ask her to go, she looked as if she was shot out of a cannon. If Snow Fairy had displayed that kind of speed in this race, or in the St Leger? She could've beaten Midday and Arctic Cosmos, IMO.

  • @elgransenor1, I think Snow Fairy is an awfully good filly. Obviously, to be a dual Oaks winner, and ran a solid 2nd to Midday in this race. But I think 12 furlongs is about Snow Fairy's limit. I'm not sure she'll get the 14+furlongs at Doncaster. Or at least not as easy as horses like Dandino, Rewilding, Midas Touch, and Arctic Cosmos will. I think the 14+furlongs is why Cape Blanco is longer odds than most. Because on form, he's the most talent in the race. Not sure he'll stay past 12 either.

  • @GBeret83 - great post! A fine summation - thank you!

  • @Peadar2000, That I can, sir. I think Midday has ran back to back outstanding races. Beating Stacelita in the Nassau Stakes, and beating Snow Fairy in the Yorkshire Oaks. I also think that Midday is really at her peak level right now, and is the best filly, bar none, in racing. I would've liked to have seen Dar Re Mi in the race to have a shot at defending her 09' Yorkshire Oaks crown. But I'm not sure Dar Re Mi or Sariska either one was going to beat Midday on this day. How's that?

  • @Gberet82 - that's a lonnnnng post for one race. I say fuck the punters; i'm one myself but i realise there's more to racing than the people who put money on. Can't you at least appreciate what Midday did and comment on the actual sport itself?

  • @uhegbu, I couldn't believe Sariska refused to run either. I just can't believe the bookies who caved and gave money back to people who bet on her. I also can't believe the cry babies that had the gall to ask for money back. Sariska was a starter. She was in the gate. And she was not a last minute, at the post scratch. No different than if she just ran a terrible race. Any bookie in America would laugh at you asking for your money back. They'd tell you that "you're shit out of luck" friend. LOL.
