I spent Father's Day fishing on our Phoenix 38 (http://americamarine.com/) with my wife, daughter and her friends. We spent the afternoon tied up to a federally owned public dock called 'Winter Harbour' (named because it is where the freighters tie up when they can no longer traverse the St Lawrence system in January and February) near Bridgeview Marina in Point Edward Ontario (near Sarnia). I was casting (half-heartedly to pass the time actually) with a very large ocean spinning reel and quite a heavy rod that I usually use with the downriggers for salmon and trout. I was using a 4" spoon (florescent orange and white)

I was just about ready to call it quits when I got a strike. No way of knowing what it was but it was heavy and ran with my line. The landing took ten to fifteen minutes as the fish pulled and lurched continuously. By now all hands were watching as I wrestled with the fish. As the he (and I) finally tired, we could see it was a Muskie. Apparently they are very rare for this area. Even in their known habitats, they are refered to as 'the fish of 1000 casts' because they are hard to catch. Although small for this species this specimen was still about three feet long and weighed over 14 pounds. After the movie and pictures we released him so he might grow to his adult five foot, sixty pound size. Fun to catch indeed, especially on a perfect Father's Day.

You can read more about this incredible fish on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muskellunge
