Demonstrates the RFID tag encoding station at Knox Nursery - used to encode plant trays prior to putting them into production. Knox is a wholesale plant nursery that uses RFID tags to track the serial number of each bed of plants produced and shipped. The encoding station encodes tags read by a barcode scanner on an assembly line - volume can be up to 20,000 tags at a time in peak season. The RFID equipment is Symbol/Motorola XR400/440 fixed readers setup as a shipping portal.

  • Zebra printers can do the encoding, but that machine is a print and apply using the Zebra print engine. It would cost $40-50k to replace the print and apply label printer with one that also supports RFID encoding.
