Three years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that my little pink cottage in New London, Connecticut, could be handed over to a private developer.
It was just one of 10,000 instances of eminent domain abuse to occur in the United States over a 5-year period.
Just one instance—yet a tipping point that sparked a national revolution.
On this, the third anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's dreadful decision, I'm asking for 10,000 people to join me in donating to the non-profit legal foundation that stood by me all the way to the Supreme Court, and continues to stand by heroic individuals fighting to keep the homes that are rightfully theirs.
By donating to the Institute for Justice on the anniversary of the ruling—June 23, 2008—you will become a Founding Member of the Susette Kelo Liberty Club.
Every single dollar raised during this special event will be used to fight eminent domain abuse across the nation.
And while all donations are appreciated, I hope you'll consider giving your most generous gift of $25, $50, $100, or more. Even a $5 contribution will send a message to those in power that our homes are important to us and must be protected.

The Government forgot 1 thing, public perception. Under the eyes of the law it is legal, but in the eyes in the most of the public it was stolen, making the land worthless to business You cant conduct business with a hostile public. People spent millions for almost nothing. Now they unintentionally added another complication to eminent domain, the media.
remember you never own your land or home you only lease it from the government. stop paying taxes and see what happens even though it is paid off. also remember the land under your home you do not own the mineral rights are owned by the government
Nike is bulldozing my old neighborhood with the University of Oregon and eminent domain. Together they want to build a basketball arena that will be over a quarter billion dollars. I have posted six videos about it here at Utube. To find them use the Utube search with keywords:nike university of oregon.
In Kelo, the court ruled that the government was justified in taking away land from a private land-owner, Susette Kelo, when it was predicted that a private developer could get better use of the land -- that is, have bigger facilities that would generate more tax revenue for the town.
This went way beyond the court's prior holdings that eminent domain could only be enforced when land was taken for a public use -- not a private one.
Not to mention, since the court decided in Kelo that the promise of private use was enough to guarantee a private developer the right to use eminent domain, they did not ensure that the private developer would have effective timetables for development, which is why they have since Kelo failed to build anything on that land, which has, in fact, weakened the economy of the town.
@allnamesareuseddamn Then in this case how does court satisfy the intrinsic value of the property to the owner without owner destroying the true market value through bad publicity because the owners intrinsic value was not met?
This shows then that not only did the court's decision enable the town to steal from individuals to give to a corporation, it has also frustrated the town's efforts to effectively boost the economy of the town.
