KPHO-TV 5 in Phoenix, Arizona, was the first station to sign on in Phoenix and in Arizona, back in 1949. At 11:59 pm on June 12, 2009, it became the last station to sign off regular analog broadcasting. Like KTVK, KPHO is still broadcasting in analog, running the nightlight service. There was no fanfare, as the CBS affiliate was in the middle of its normal 11:35 pm rebroadcast of the 10 pm news when shutdown occurs at 2:26 in this 4:00 video clip.

  • If you're seeing this message and are thinking "What the @#?" your station did not provide a propper singing off ceremony. Shame on them. However, this is a nightlight station so it's better than cutting to snow as if someone tripped over a cord.

  • noooooo! i wanted to know about the low pressure system!

  • OK it was unseasonably cool and then what does my DTV have to do with the weather?

  • It was starting to retrograde down to Mexico, high pressure would've been pushing in to the Phoenix-Mesa area. Or so you think, MUAHAHAHA.
