  • That is why all of us look for their records and buy them...It is like a Taylor making a suit...you don´t wanna see all the inner side of it...but it has it...

  • I love ProTools, but there are times to doctor a take, and there are times to just get your butt back in the live room to do it again! AND there are times to just leave the mistake in the track and move on. Here, I mean, it's JAZZ - how many times does a right note sound wrong and a wrong note sound right anyway? True music fans (as opposed to those who are only in it in an academic way to criticize) won't get uptight about being off a half-step every once-in-a-while =|

  • Wow. Didnt know they did all that. That's why i'm a firm believer in rehearsing the material, playing it on live gigs so that it has some momentum...then go into the studio and play like your playing a live gig.

  • @xaiesque12 My feelings exactly that in the old days it was recorded as it was played, no fancy stuff with limiters, compressors and what not. Maybe a little less volume but that was it. I agree that I like the "old" stuff more than the new but that's just my opinion.

  • What a shame....I always defended jazz over other kinds of music because of the high skilled musicianship. But come on, Mintzer pro-tooling his take? I'm done man...

  • So, he's using Pro Tools, right?

  • I was in the studio the whole week helping Will w/ his drums for the recording of what is now called "Timeline". I must say, Richard is an amazing engineer and wonderful person. Rich Breen is the best engineer for this project and band. Like Will said, he is the 5th Yellowjacket! Not to mention sight reading all the charts w/ the guys, BANANAS!

  • @xaiesque12 and I know that older jazz albums were frequently cut and pasted together but many of today's jazz albums are way too clean for me.

  • I respect an musician's choice to capture their compositions as beautifully as they can in their albums because it takes so much time and dedication to make an album work, but that kinda let's me understand why I really love old jazz albums so much more than new ones because new albums are TOO polished, especially the drummer, horns, ..well everything. It's really important for me to find in jazz a raw, in the moment feeling that can not be touched or edited.

  • Interesting to know that they are changing notes!
