Aung Moe was one of the student leaders during the 1988 student uprising in Burma. Since then, he has fled his country after a brutal military crackdown and has taken refuge in Canada. Last May, he staged a solo 5-day hunger strike in front of the White House, calling on President Obama to support a UN-led Commission of Inquiry to investigate war crimes and crimes against humanity in Burma. This is his story.
I'm sorry, but hunger strikes, citizen protests...will not work. Does Thun Shwe seem like the kind of guy who gives a shit about other people starving? Will a government all of a sudden take a stand against his regime because six or seven citizens choose to commit suicide slowly? You want to make a change for the people of Burma? You'll need an army. NOT AN AMERICAN ONE, but an army, and one with a great leader, and with one purpose. To deal with the opposing force: Thun Shwe's regime.
