Lester McCumbers talks about one of the banjo players he knew that played and sang Cherry River Line. The song was played by a number of banjo players including Jenes Cottrell (famous for his Buick torque converter banjos).

As far as I know Lester was the first of the fiddle players to pick up the tune. His wife Linda sang quite a few verses to it.
