This medley starts with American composer-pianist, William Bolcom (b.1938) playing Gershwin's own very brief arrangement of 'Fascinating Rhythm', after which we hear the composer himself, recorded in 1926, joined by a young song-and-dance duo, Fred and Adele Astaire. This nostalgic period piece, made two years after the song's parent show 'Lady be Good' was launched, provides a fascinating insight into Gershwin's own style of playing - and to my ears he emerges as the real star of the trio! The medley concludes in glittering style with a paraphrase by Earl Wild (b.1915), recorded in 1977. It is the fourth of Wild's Seven Virtuoso Etudes, all of which are based on Gershwin songs.
I have always liked Fascinating Rhythm. Nice post!

Music is intrepretation. It is so amazing how people can take the same basic tune and render it in completely different ways. Each just as good as the others and yet intrepreted so very differently. Thank you for this most enjoyable medley :o)
