Pacific Northwest tree falling legend, Jeff Choyce, falls a 122' fir snag. The tree measures 4'6" in diameter. The bar length he uses is 42". Notice the swing-cut technique he uses in order to bring the tree down without having to use wedges. If you fall trees, do not attempt a swing cut unless you are experienced with the technique, for they can be very dangerous!

  • This is the second video you have posted that is just not safe. The guy not cutting is standing right in line where the saw could swing back and out of the cut. Complacency is a killer!!!

  • @r1skate People like you are only alive because modern-day society has created a world where natural selection no longer exists. Do the universe a favor and go kill your self.

  • Hey man!

You were lucky that this job didn't ended up in something bad!!

Where's the hinge?? Why did you use that front cut with that long sword??

You could've easily just used a normal cut!

  • There was no luck involved here. Read the description. There was a demonstration going on. You have some cool videos BTW. Keep posting them!

  • @findingusernamesux11

My bad, didn't read the description...

    But why?

  • There were some younger guys there that didn't know what a Dutchman (swing-cut) was so he was showing them. That's all...

  • This man I'm sure has fallen many of trees and very skilled but my self throwing my two cents thinks it's foolish to not notch, back cut and wedge if needed. Thanks for posting was cool to see a tree of this size fall:-). To everyone else be safe and think twice while falling trees!!

  • @wildbill1953 Love those old saws

  • when u remove a wedge from one side, the weight is not supported and is almost entirely maintained by the other side under tension. u rotate around to basically, in metaphorical terms, cut the achilles tendon and the leg falls forward.

  • A "class A" faller card from the forest service means that you can only cut up to 8" dbh and require supervision. That's strange when you think about it. The government said you couldn't cut a tree even a tenth of that size of the one shown in the video.

  • I would like to further understand how the Dutchman works. From seeing the video I figure the tree has little or no lean to it. So he put the hing to the opposite side to where he wanted the tree to fall. Therefor changing the center of gravity and causing the tree to pull itself "or having extra weight" to the direction being felled.

  • He cut the hinge after it fell. That was some nice skill. Those snags don't always want to fall so the big face. That was awesome.

  • now u have to split all of it haha
